BEHOLD. A whirl
of studded collars and rib - kissing tops, a maelstrom of Grant
Nicolas grins and blond highlights to make you sigh. Hello, have
you come about the glam pop?
Shaven - headed,
heavy - lidded Glitterbug singer Leighton Carter(Name!) has
a powerful deft voice that skids into miles of incomprehensible
rabbit between songs. The songs - the helium Placebo - ballon of
"Moving", The cleavage plunge rock of "Out of Sight"
- are immediate like a bus in the face, propelled by bravado and
joyful melodies that stretch for the top notch of irresistability.
Great.
It's just that
the sweat of life doesn't seep into these Lycra - clingy tunes,
making them a blank sheet waiting for a manifesto. They're in danger
of being Rachel Stamp guesting on "Happy Days", falling
off the line that glam treads between electric sex and vacuous folly,
although "Skywalking" bears the hickies of angst on its
brave, pale neck and "The music saved us" is magically
infectious.
Beneath the
glitz, they could be (clench) the new Dum Dums, but Glitterbug have
a glacial charm where Dum Dums have only poison irony; a romantic
flicker where Dum Dums have a shit - scoffing grin. So there's more
than a glimmer of hope. SARAH BEE
"This
issue's soundtrack" - Skinny-Hipped, Punk-Pop, Like Dum dums
dancing through Camden pissed on Malibu.
Rousing, Bluetones-stomp
into the shallows of Britrock.
